Urgent food recall issued by Morrisons over fears meat product is contaminated with plastic - 'Unsafe to eat'

Full Refund for Returned Items

Customers who return the product will receive a full refund, no receipt necessary.

The supermarket chain Morrisons has initiated a recall of its premium Cumberland sausages after discovering potential contamination with blue plastic pieces.

The product being recalled is “The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages,” which may pose a health risk if consumed.

The Food Standards Agency has announced the recall, affecting 400g packages with a use-by date of May 1, 2025.

“The possible presence of small pieces of blue plastic makes the product unsafe to eat,” warned the FSA.

Due to safety concerns, customers who have purchased the affected sausages are advised not to consume them.

Morrisons has responded promptly by placing point-of-sale notices in all stores that carry the product.

These notices inform customers about the recall and provide guidance on what actions to take if they have purchased the product.

The supermarket chain is urging customers who have bought the affected sausages to return them to the nearest store.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issues Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities about issues with food products.

In more severe cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ may be issued, which provides specific instructions for local authorities to help protect consumers.

Products identified with safety issues are either ‘withdrawn’ (removed from shelves) or ‘recalled’ (customers are asked to return the product).

This recall follows a recent similar incident in March when Coca-Cola recalled over 10,000 cans of soda due to plastic contamination.

Customers returning the product will receive a full refund.

The FDA has issued a warning that “hard or sharp foreign objects in food can cause traumatic injury including laceration and perforation of tissues such as the mouth, tongue, throat, stomach, and intestines, as well as potentially damaging teeth and gums”.

The voluntary recall was initiated by Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling, LLC, covering 864 cases containing 12 cans each.

This incident was reported to the FDA in March and is part of what officials describe as a growing trend of food and drink recalls across major brands and retailers.

Consumers with concerns about either recall are encouraged to contact the respective companies directly.
