Safety Alert: Injury Risk from Non-Compliant Products
These items do not meet the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, which may cause harm to users.
A prominent British fashion retailer has issued a recall for several bikini top styles sold between November 2024 and June 2025.
Matalan has indicated that the underwiring in these swimwear items could emerge through the fabric during wear, potentially leading to skin injuries.
The safety concern arises as there’s a risk of cuts and abrasions to users when the metal underwiring protrudes through the material during use.

Consequently, the retailer has established that these items do not adhere to the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
The Government has advised: “These products pose an injury risk as the underwiring may emerge from its casing during use, potentially causing scratches or cuts to the skin.
“If you have bought any of the implicated bikini tops, please cease using them immediately and return them to your closest Matalan store for a full refund,” the alert further states. “A receipt will not be necessary.”
Customers who have purchased any of the recalled bikini tops can return them to their nearest Matalan store.
