Rachel Reeves' car taxes could see two in five petrol and diesel drivers give up cars

Escalating Vehicle Costs Affect Over 40% of Motorists

Research indicates that elevated costs of driving are affecting a significant portion of vehicle owners.

As many as two out of five owners of petrol and diesel vehicles might consider abandoning their cars due to rising expenses including taxes, insurance, and overall operational costs.

This concern stems from a study showing that 41% of working adults fear they may have to give up their vehicles this year if the costs of commuting continue to rise to unsustainable levels.

The financial strain is compounded by projections that the cost to fill a standard 50-60 litre petrol or diesel tank could increase by up to £20 this year, potentially pushing drivers to their breaking point.

It has also been revealed that certain UK regions are more susceptible to these impacts, with Plymouth identified as the city most likely to see drivers abandoning their vehicles.
