Sterling K. Brown is choosing to attend this year’s Emmy Awards despite needing medical attention, opting to celebrate the occasion with his colleagues.

On a recent Tuesday, the 49-year-old actor shared with his fans that he had suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury. Despite the setback, he has decided to postpone his surgery in order to support his fellow cast members from Paradise.

“It’s ya boy SKB, just reaching out because I’ll likely need to explain this situation many times to many people. I hope this message will help reduce the number of times I need to repeat myself,” he commented in an extensive video on his Instagram.

Brown reassured his followers that while the news was unfortunate, it wasn’t catastrophic. He described the moment of the injury as feeling like someone had violently struck the back of his heel, although it occurred during a non-dangerous activity.

Initially, Brown thought someone had physically hurt him and looked around for the culprit, only to realize the injury was self-inflicted, which he noted are often the most serious kinds.

“So, I need surgery,” he confirmed, adding that he plans to undergo the procedure after the Emmys to keep his spirits high and celebrate the show’s nominations with his team.

Brown plays Agent Xavier Collins in the political thriller Paradise, set in a peaceful community that is rocked by a violent crime, leading to an intense investigation, as described by the show’s synopsis.

Despite his enthusiasm for the event, Brown acknowledged that his injury will limit his usual mobility and activity. Known for his casual, athletic style at non-formal events, he joked about always being ready for a spontaneous game, with sports gear stashed in his car.

From his bed, where he has been watching football and reading, Brown shared that he is doing everything possible to stay positive.

Paradise, featuring actors like James Marsden, Julianne Nicholson, and Sarah Shahi, has received four Emmy nominations. These include nods for Brown as Outstanding Lead Actor, Nicholson for Outstanding Supporting Actress, Marsden for Outstanding Supporting Actor, and the series itself for Outstanding Drama Series.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14. Meanwhile, viewers can catch up on season 1 of Paradise, currently available on Hulu.
