What You Need to Know

Hersheypark recently faced an incident where the popular Comet rollercoaster was evacuated. The evacuation occurred due to a problem involving a guest who was not on the ride itself.

The incident took place at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, as reported by CBS 21, a local news outlet. The park was quick to respond, with Hersheypark officials explaining, “The Comet underwent a brief halt due to an external guest-related issue. Following our safety protocols, our team members guided all riders safely back to the station, and the ride resumed normal operations shortly after.”

Recent Related Incidents

A separate alarming event involved the ‘Tilt’ rollercoaster, where guests were left hanging 160 feet in the air due to a malfunction. Additionally, Disney World announced the upcoming closure of another iconic ride to make room for a new themed area.

According to Fox 43, another local news source, the stoppage of the Comet ride was not due to any mechanical issues. Hersheypark has not provided further comments on the matter.

This event follows closely on the heels of another recent safety concern at Hersheypark. Just over a week prior, a young boy was spotted walking along the monorail tracks after having been separated from his mother. This incident occurred at around 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, as per a Hersheypark spokesperson.

The boy had apparently sneaked into the monorail station and remained there undetected for about 20 minutes before climbing onto the tracks. Fortunately, the monorail was not in operation at that time. “The ride entrance was closed and secured with a chain, and the platform turnstile was barricaded,” said the spokesperson.

Upon noticing the boy on the tracks, park staff quickly intervened and by approximately 5:28 p.m., he was safely reunited with his family, unharmed. A video circulating on YouTube shows the boy looking bewildered as he walked on the tracks, while park guests below gestured to him to move towards a building for safety. A man on a nearby roof also reached out to assist him.

The park spokesperson expressed gratitude for the vigilance of the guests and the prompt response of the staff, reaffirming Hersheypark’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

Hersheypark continues to ensure the safety of its visitors and addresses incidents promptly as part of its operational protocol.
