Rosemary Riad: An Unexpected Oasis in the Heart of Marrakech

A Prolonged Restoration Project
The Riad Rosemary of Marrakech was designed by Belgian architect Quentin Wilbaux, renowned for his dedication to documenting and restoring the architectural heritage of Marrakech’s medina. In the 1990s, Wilbaux was commissioned by UNESCO to document and restore numerous historic buildings in the city. His meticulous approach resulted in a riad that preserves the authenticity and beauty of Moroccan architectural traditions while incorporating contemporary design elements and modern comforts. The restoration project spanned five years, transforming the building into a quaint boutique hotel with five luxurious suites. The renovation honored the original features of the building, such as the burgundy marble in the traditional hammam and the decorative ceiling panels, while introducing new elements to enhance guest experiences.
The Distinctive Touch of Laurence and Ayoub
Laurence and Ayoub collaborated naturally with Wilbaux, infusing their dreamy, colorful, and whimsical creations, from carpets to ceramics. The hotel features vintage furniture, such as Tobia Scarpa armchairs and desks from the 1920s, alongside unique pieces created by Laurence, like the cedar wood credenza in the Rosemary Suite and the wrought iron door handles. The hand-painted tiles and sandstone planters were custom-made, reflecting a keen attention to detail and a love for craftsmanship. This collaboration created a unique space that celebrates Moroccan culture with a decidedly pop flair.
The summer lounge offers a peaceful corner in the patio, perfect for reading a book under the shade of a majestic jacaranda tree. The rooftop terrace provides a breathtaking view of the city, inviting guests to unwind at sunset. The rosemary-scented hammam and the small courtyard pool are ideal spots for rejuvenation, while the living room welcomes guests with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Guests also have the opportunity to participate in craft workshops to connect with the local community and its traditions. Lastly, it is possible to purchase the furniture and decorative items displayed in the Riad Rosemary, which doubles as both a boutique hotel and a showroom for the LRNCE brand. Items such as vintage armchairs, hand-painted ceramics, carpets, and other furnishings are available for sale, allowing guests to take home a piece of the unique riad experience.
