Essential Highlights

  • Bella Hadid chose a vintage Christian Dior dress for her Orebella fragrance debut in London.
  • The gown originates from the brand’s 1997 autumn collection.
  • Milla Jovovich previously donned the same dress at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997, shortly after its runway presentation.

Bella Hadid made a striking appearance in a historic piece of fashion today.

Even though she is no longer at the Cannes Film Festival, the supermodel opted for a nostalgic nod to the 1997 Cannes Film Festival while in London for her Orebella fragrance launch.

At 28, Hadid shone in a metallic silver V-neck wrap dress designed by John Galliano for his fall 1997 collection, which was also worn by supermodel and Resident Evil actress Milla Jovovich at Cannes that year.

Hadid styled the legendary dress — adorned with metallic frills and rosette accents — with pointed silver Jimmy Choo pumps. Her accessories included a diamond tennis necklace, various rings, and heart-shaped earrings to complete the ensemble.

For her beauty look, Hadid pulled her hair into a sleek ballet bun embellished with a few white rosettes and opted for a subtly rosy makeup palette.

Nearly three decades earlier, Jovovich had paired this shimmering dress with the same type of gladiator-style heels worn by supermodel Hedvig Marie Maigre during the dress’s fashion week debut. The Fifth Element star graced the red carpet in this Dior creation at the premiere of the Luc Besson-directed sci-fi action movie.

At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Hadid donned a sleek Saint Laurent gown featuring a daring thigh-high slit and side cutouts, accessorized with stunning emerald earrings, a heart-shaped diamond ring, and rhinestone-embellished Saint Laurent sandals.

Hadid’s choice of gown seemed to playfully acknowledge the festival’s newly announced dress code, which bans nudity on the red carpet and in other festival areas for reasons of decency. The rules also prohibit overly voluminous outfits, particularly those with extensive trains, as they disrupt guest movement and complicate theater seating.
