Kyle MacLachlan, known for his roles in iconic series and films, has a new admirer of his TikTok ventures—his son Callum. After initially cringing at his father’s TikTok posts, Callum is now more receptive, MacLachlan revealed in a recent interview with PEOPLE.
Five years ago, MacLachlan expanded his artistic expression to the digital world of TikTok, transitioning from the big screen to the tiny screens of mobile phones. His TikTok account features nods to his memorable characters like Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks and Trey MacDougal from Sex and the City, though his content varies widely.
MacLachlan embraces both nostalgia and current trends in his posts, often showcasing his humorous side and willingness to step outside his comfort zone.
In a creative spurt for a TikTok set to Lorde’s song “What Was That,” MacLachlan turned to his 17-year-old son Callum for help with the appropriate attire, which closely resembled the modern styles his son wears. Callum, who is also into designing and sewing clothes, willingly assisted.
“I mentioned I needed some pants, and he designs these… they’re quite baggy,” MacLachlan shared during an interview about his involvement in a Lyft campaign.
“He just handed them over saying, ‘Here you go Dad, try these on.’ He ended up picking out my entire outfit for that video,” the Dune star added, acknowledging his son’s role in styling him for the TikTok video.
The wide-leg, distressed jeans MacLachlan wore in the video received positive feedback on TikTok, with comments praising the “baggy jeans” and noting how he styled like “the cool kid in high school.”
MacLachlan himself was quite pleased with the look. “I was surprised, they actually looked pretty good on me,” he commented, laughing. “I thought, maybe I should start wearing baggy pants more often.”
It wasn’t just the jeans; MacLachlan has borrowed glasses and a hoodie from Callum for other TikTok videos, indicating a trend of wardrobe sharing between father and son.
“He’s developed a remarkable sense of style,” MacLachlan remarked proudly about his son. “It’s quite distinctive and absolutely on the forefront of fashion trends.”
Reflecting on the evolving dynamics of his TikTok presence and its reception by his son, MacLachlan recalled how Callum’s initial embarrassment has turned into a more accepting attitude. Despite the occasional “cringe” reaction in the past, Callum now occasionally approves of his dad’s posts.
“He’s getting used to it. Kids at school even talk to him about my videos, usually in a good way. He handles it pretty well,” MacLachlan said, noting the positive shift in his son’s perception.
