Over 82,000 Public EV Charging Points Across the UK
Currently, the UK hosts a significant number of over 82,000 public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations available for motorists.
Next week, drivers in the Midlands have the opportunity to enjoy complimentary EV charging as part of a new summer initiative from one of the UK’s largest charging network providers.
RAW Charging is rolling out its Connecting Amazing Places campaign aimed at facilitating easier access to electric charging for vehicle owners throughout the region.
With the inauguration of RAW Charging’s latest ultra-rapid charging hub at McArthurGlen West Midlands, drivers will enjoy zero-cost charging.
Electric vehicle owners can charge their cars for free from Monday, July 21, to Sunday, July 28.

The McArthurGlen West Midlands site now features 10 charging bays, including two priority bays, capable of up to 22kW charging, alongside 65 designer shops, cafes, and restaurants.
RAW Charging has successfully installed over 385 EV charging stations across McArthurGlen Group locations throughout the UK and Europe.
David Jackson, UK Facilities Lead and McArthurGlen West Midlands Centre Manager, commented: “This initiative is a prime example of RAW’s commitment to providing impactful solutions for everyday destinations.”
“As the adoption of EVs increases, it’s crucial that the necessary infrastructure keeps pace. This new hub in West Midlands is crafted to simplify sustainable driving for both the local community and visitors,” he added.

RAW Charging operates hundreds of chargers across the hospitality, leisure, and retail sectors, including notable locations such as the National Trust, Legoland, and Alton Towers.
The company has also formed a partnership with the Scottish city of Aberdeen through its abrdn project, investing over £6 million in regional sites, activating more than 100 charging bays.
In collaboration with the National Trust, RAW Charging proudly operates the UK’s highest-altitude chargers. One such charger is located at Pen y Fan in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, also known as the Brecon Beacons, sitting at an impressive altitude of 886 meters above sea level.

The UK’s highest altitude EV charger is located at a RAW Charging site in Pen y Fan, Wales.
Jason Simpson, CEO of RAW Charging, expressed excitement about launching their chargers at the final UK McArthurGlen Group location.
“This activation underscores RAW’s pivotal role as a key infrastructure partner for retail locations across Europe,” he stated.
“To celebrate the launch and the commencement of our Summer of Connecting Amazing Places campaign, we’re offering a week of free charging—demonstrating just how effortless and enjoyable sustainable travel can be,” Simpson added.
According to data from the EV charging database Zapmap, there are currently more than 82,000 EV charging devices across nearly 40,500 locations in the UK.
Motorists are no longer required to obtain planning permission to install an EV charger at their homes.
Many experts are hopeful that by the end of the decade, the UK will boast 300,000 chargers to bolster motorists’ confidence in transitioning to electric vehicles.
This transition has been facilitated by Labour’s initiative to cut through bureaucratic red tape, allowing drivers and businesses to install new EV chargers without needing planning permission.
The new streamlined process eliminates the requirement for drivers and businesses to submit a planning application when installing a private or public charging device.
Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood stated that Labour’s decision was aimed at easing the transition for drivers and “powering up the EV revolution.”
