Jim Henson’s Muppet*Vision 3D Shuts Down After Three Decades

On Saturday, June 7, Jim Henson’s Muppet*Vision 3D closed its operations permanently, marking 34 years since its inception.

As Disney World progresses towards a new chapter, the dismantling of one of its cherished attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is almost complete.

It has been almost two months since the closure of Jim Henson’s Muppet*Vision 3D, which ended its 34-year legacy on June 7. Today, only fragments of what was once known as Muppets Courtyard along Grand Avenue can still be seen.

This attraction, which featured a 3D film, live special effects, and animatronic characters, represents the final project of Jim Henson before his passing. The creator of the Muppets died in 1990 at the age of 53.

Recent photos obtained by Blog Mickey and shared with PEOPLE reveal that most of the plaza area in front of the former MuppetVision*3D attraction has been demolished, leaving only parts of the surrounding pavements and walls.

Images depict green and yellow excavators preparing for further demolition required for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. coaster and surrounding area that will replace the former attraction.

Another photograph shows that only a single wall of the Stage 1 Company Store remains standing, and the pavement around the once iconic Miss Piggy fountain has been removed.

The announcement for the new Monsters, Inc. attraction, which is inspired by the 2001 movie, was made at the D23: The Ultimate Fan Event in August 2024.

Billy Crystal, the voice behind Mike Wazowski in the Pixar movie, broke the news, revealing that the attraction will feature a new suspended roller coaster—the first of its kind for Disney—that will simulate a journey through the magical door factory from the movie.

After months of speculation, Disney confirmed in November 2024 that the new attraction would indeed replace the Muppet*Vision 3D area. However, in a twist, it was announced in June 2025 that the Muppets would take over the Rock’ n’ Roller Coaster.

“Hi Ho everyone! @TheMuppets are moving to Sunset Blvd for their first-ever coaster! Grab your guitar (or banjo), because Rock ’N’ Roller Coaster Starring @TheMuppets is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026,” tweeted the official Walt Disney World account.
