Thousands of drivers in the UK have been told to check whether their cars are affected by a fresh safety recall after the Stellantis group flagged a potential fire hazard. The move touches a wide range of popular models from Peugeot to Vauxhall and will see dealers inspecting and, where needed, fixing vehicles at no charge.
What triggered the recall and the safety concern
Stellantis identified a possible fault where a gasoline particulate filter pipe sits too close to the protection cup of a 48‑volt belt starter generator (BSG). That reduced clearance could create a safety risk under certain conditions.
The company says the issue could increase the chance of a fire, prompting a global recall.
Brands and model years affected in the UK
The recall covers cars from several Stellantis marques produced recently. Owners should check whether their vehicle is listed.
- Peugeot
- Citroën
- DS Automobiles
- Vauxhall
- Lancia
- Alfa Romeo
- Jeep
- Fiat
Most of the impacted cars were built between 2023 and 2026. In the UK specifically, roughly 44,000 vehicles are included in the notice.
How big is the recall worldwide?
Stellantis says the campaign affects around 700,000 cars globally. Authorities in other countries, including Germany’s KBA, have also issued related notices.
What owners must do now
If you think your car might be affected, act quickly but safely. Dealers will inspect vehicles and carry out any required work.
- Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the maker’s recall portal or contact your dealer.
- Book an appointment if your car is listed.
- A technician will examine the clearance and fit the upgraded component if needed.
Repairs are free and usually take about 30 minutes.
What the repair involves
Service teams will replace the BSG’s pole protection cup with a part that has improved insulation. They will also verify the gap between the particulate filter pipe and the BSG and make adjustments if required.
Regulatory context and previous safety actions
The recall follows other safety interventions by the group. Earlier this year the UK arm issued a rare “Stop‑Drive” advisory related to Takata airbags on older models. That action covered vehicles made between 2008 and 2019.
Examples of previously affected older models include:
- Citroën C3
- Citroën C4
- DS3, DS4 and DS5
- Citroën C‑Zero
Practical tips for owners awaiting inspection
- Do not ignore recall letters or online alerts from Stellantis.
- If you see unusual smells, smoke, or warning lights, stop driving when safe and seek roadside assistance.
- Keep paperwork from the dealer after the inspection; it documents the safety check.
