Motorway Disruption Due to Lorry Fire

Early this morning, commuters were advised to expect delays following a lorry fire that halted traffic on the M1 in Derbyshire. The fire started around 6am and led to a complete stop of traffic as emergency services tackled the blaze.

The incident took place between junctions 29 and 28. National Highways alerted the public through a post on X, stating, “Traffic has been STOPPED on the M1 southbound in Derbyshire between J29 (Chesterfield) and J28 (Mansfield) due to a lorry fire.”

The fire was quickly addressed by the authorities, and by 6:45am, it was extinguished. The aftermath of the fire saw two of the four lanes reopened to allow traffic to pass, albeit slowly. Efforts are underway to remove the remains of the burnt-out lorry to fully reopen the remaining lanes.

As of now, minor delays are still being reported, but traffic flow is expected to normalize by 1:15pm after the vehicle is cleared. National Highways has been diligently working to clear any debris from the roadway. Fortunately, the lorry driver was reported to be unharmed following the incident.
