Research conducted by AXA UK, in collaboration with Aviloo, revealed that 63% of drivers had no plans to purchase an electric vehicle, with 37% citing battery life concerns as a major deterrent. The study also showed that only 8% of drivers would consider buying a second-hand electric vehicle without these assurances.
From an insurance perspective, these certificates could significantly impact premiums by providing a clearer method to assess the residual value of used EVs, similar to how mileage is used for traditional vehicles. Marco Distefano, Managing Director of AXA Retail, urged the government to expedite the publication of guidelines to support standardized battery health assessments, “Not only will this boost the used EV market, but it could also positively affect insurance premiums, providing a reliable benchmark for evaluating the value of EVs.”
