Grilled Naan with Chobani. {pizza crust}

I wanted to try my hand at making homemade Naan.  My husband’s college roommate was Indian and he had several recipes from him that I wanted to transform and use in different ways.  I whipped this recipe up and tried it out on the gas grill outside and it turned out perfectly!  Tonight we are going to use it for our pizza base.  Made with all purpose and whole wheat flour.  I added Greek yogurt for extra protein and it yielded a lovely dough.  I hope you give this one a try.  Perfect for parties and summer grilling.

Ingredients:

1 teaspoon of yeast
1 cup of warm water
2 tablespoons of white sugar
2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt (I used Chobani plain non-fat)
1 egg
1 teaspoon of salt
3.5 cups of flour (I used 1 cup of all-purpose and 2.5 whole wheat)
4 tablespoons of melted butter

Directions:

Add the yeast and warm water into your mixer.  Let stand 2-3 minutes.  Then add sugar, yogurt, egg, salt, flour and melted butter.  Using dough hook, knead for 6-8 minutes.  Then cover and let rise in a warm location.

Preheat your outdoor grill or oven with a pizza stone (at 500 degrees) – outdoor grill I fire up the outer burners and let the middle on very low.  I add olive oil to an old kitchen towel and roll into a ball.  Wipe the grill down with the oil each time before putting the dough down on the grates.  Obviously do this with great care.  You will only be adding the oiled towel to the area where the flame is low (middle).   I divide the dough into 8 balls. Roll them out on a floured surface (roll fairly thin).  I add them to the grill and cover.  They will bubble up.  Flip them over when they start to just get golden, about 3-4 minutes.  Then remove and top with sauce and cheese or your favorites.  Add back to the grill.  Grill only for 1 minute or until the cheese melts.  Serve end enjoy!
